If you know me then you know that I love Black romance. I’ve been an avid reader and consumer of all things Black romance since I started working at B. Dalton Booksellers at 16 years old.

Since then my love for Black love on the page has grown even more. So when I had the pleasure of reading an advanced retail copy of The Matrimony by D. Rose I was thrilled. I think D. Rose is one of the most talented yet underrated authors in the Black indie romance game.

When we last saw Sergio and Michaela, they were navigating a marriage of convenience and falling for each other in the process. In this follow up story, we see a couple clearly still in love but questioning how they can make their still new marriage work in the face of their demanding careers and feelings of uncertainty.

Ms. Rose does a great job bringing these wonderful characters back into our lives and giving us a peek into the aftermath of their happily ever after. We pick up two years into their marriage and with Sergio’s career flourishing and Michaela seemingly content with the direction of her life and career.

We see the passion between them still burns deeply but is that enough to keep their relationship afloat? Will they have to make sacrifices in order to find their way back to each other?

Ms. Rose masterfully shows us how this newly wed couple works to keep the honeymoon phase alive and their desire for each other in tact.

If you loved Sergio and Michaela in The Vow then you’ll love this book that chronicles the next stop on their journey to love. Click the link below to get your copy of The Matrimony.

On this extra special episode, I go on location to Dallas, Texas to attend Girl, Have You Met…a gathering founded by the creators and hosts of Girl, Have You Read Christina C. Jones and Alexandra Warren featuring Nicole Falls, Te Russ, Phyllis Bourne, Love Belvin, Danielle Allen, Bailey West, B. Love, Chencia C. Higgins, Mercy B., Jai Bree’Nae and AC Taylor. I got the chance to meet, interview and hang out with all of these amazing Black women and get their views on why Black romance matters.
